Some 300,000 consumers in 2010 could face a cut of their supply of natural gas, due to inability to pay their bills, 30 times more than in 2008, the company said Monday GrDF, manager of network distribution of natural gas .
"The number of cases of unpaid breaks to grow from 10,000 in 2008 to 300,000 in 2010 as planned," said a spokesman GrDF, confirming information from the Parisian.
GrDF realize these "interventions for unpaid '(cuts) on request of GDF Suez (Gaz de France ex) or other natural gas suppliers such as EDF, Altergaz, Poweo …
The number of cuts had already increased from 10,000 in 2008 to 100,000 in 2009.And for only the first 5 months of 2010 (January 1 to May 31), there were 110 thousand cuts.
"Based on these figures, the natural gas suppliers announce cuts 300,000 applications this year," said the spokesman GrDF.
GDF Suez provides 94% of the 10.8 million residential customers French.Contacted by AFP, he had not responded late Monday afternoon.
Gas prices rose nearly 10% on 1 April, an increase in annual bills ranging from 12-85 euros for households, the first since August 2008 and the highest since November 2005.
And it could again increase by 4 to 5% on 1 July, according to Le Figaro.
In late May, the National Ombudsman of energy, Denis Merville had reported receiving more and more "distress calls" from consumers unable to pay their electricity bill or gas.
About 3.4 million households are in a situation of fuel poverty, that is to say they spend more than 10% of their income to pay their energy bills, according to a recent report.
To make cuts natural gas GrDF sends an agent to the consumer and then bills the transaction to the gas supplier, who may then decide to pass on all or part of the consumer.
"For people in difficulty, 80% of the bill is supported," said the spokesman GrDF.
To account for the sharp increase in requests for cuts, GrDF has decided to increase the tariff cuts from 1 July, raising it from 51 euros to 88 euros.
"This is an exceptional and give ultimate this procedure, by charging the actual cost to the supplier of natural gas," said the spokesman GrDF.
