Nissan Motor said target a nearly two-fold increase of the autonomy of its first internally developed hybrid car compared to petrol models, while keeping its costs as low as possible through a simple single engine.
The third Japanese automaker, with French automaker Renault holds 43%, is expected to launch its year-end sedan "Infiniti M" fueled by petrol and electricity, called Fuga in Japan, more than a decade after its competitors Toyota and Honda Motor.
While acknowledging the delay in the development of its hybrid vehicles, Nissan believes that its system based on a single motor and two clutches will make goods better fuel economy, at a cost significantly less complex techniques used by Toyota, the leader this market.
"Generally, automakers say that improving fuel economy for their vehicles using hybrid system" solid "or" complete "is about 30%, while it is 15% for hybrid systems light (like that of Honda), "said Koichi Hayasaki, Chief Engineer of Hybrid Nissan.
"Our goal is improved 30-90%," he said, adding that the "Infiniti M" would have a range comparable to that of a compact car.
Nissan's hybrid system has a structure similar to that used by Volkswagen, which allows the engine to only use electricity when the battery is recharged.
