600 million euros to extend each nuclear reactor

The CEO of EDF, Henri Proglio, estimated at 600 million per reactor investment costs required to extend the life of the French nuclear power plants.

"I estimate at 600 million euros for each extension of the lifetime of nuclear power plants," he said in an interview published Saturday by the Latest News from Alsace.

"This figure is, of course, be refined by taking account in particular the discussions that we have right now with the Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) Program of the main technical improvements required to achieve significant prolongation of the reactors beyond 40 years, "he adds.

"We have the ambition to extend the operation of our nuclear power plants twice a decade," said Henry Proglio everyday Strasbourg.

The French nuclear power plant fleet includes 58 reactors that were built over a period of twenty years from the late 70s.
